Beijing will build 6,000 5G base stations in 2021, according to a government work report released on January 23.
According to previous reports, by the end of 2020, the number of 5G base stations in Beijing has exceeded 37,000, basically achieving continuous coverage in urban areas and key business districts.
In terms of digital infrastructure, 5G is the forerunner of the "new infrastructure", the government work report said, adding 5G has great potential to boost investment and consumption.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan, the capital’s "new infrastructure for the digital economy" will be accelerated, with the construction of communication network infrastructure represented by the Internet of Things, the Internet of Vehicles, industrial-grade 5G chips, and satellite Internet, according to the report.
Beijing will also build a number of high-level self-driving (level 4) demonstration areas, with a total operating area of more than 1,000 square kilometers, to achieve large-scale operation of high-level self-driving vehicles in limited areas.
