SMIC, China's leading contract chipmaker, announced on December 31 the resignation of Jason Cong, an independent non-executive director, effective immediately.
SMIC stated that Cong confirmed that he has no disagreement with the Board of Directors of the company and that there are no other matters concerning his resignation that shareholders need to know.
Given that Cong's resignation will result in the number of independent non-executive directors of the company falling below the regulatory requirement, the Board of Directors of SMIC will appoint new independent non-executive directors within three months from December 31, 2020.
According to SMIC's website, Cong has been a director of the company since February 14, 2017.
