A coffee shop in Beijing has begun accepting payments in Digital RMB, the first test of the digital currency application scenario in the Chinese capital, according to the Beijing Daily.
The coffee shop, Manmao Coffee, is located in the Jintang International Finance Mansion, and authorized consumers can now use Digital RMB to purchase goods at the store.
The Digital RMB is a digital form of legal tender issued by the People's Bank of China, the country's central bank. It is equivalent to banknotes and coins, has value characteristics, is legally reimbursable, and supports anonymous use.
At present, the Digital RMB system has basically completed top-level design, standard development, function development and joint testing, and has undergone pilot tests in Shenzhen, Suzhou, Xiong'an and Chengdu.
When users pay with Digital RMB, they can use the scanning payment similar to WeChat and Alipay, and they can also use offline payment.
