ByteDance AI Lab is looking for talent in artificial intelligence and drug discovery in Beijing, Shanghai and Mountain View, California.
"We are looking for candidates to join our team and conduct cutting-edge research in drug discovery and manufacturing powered by AI algorithms," one of the job postings said.
The drug discovery team is looking for five positions, including interns, all requiring a Ph.D. or higher degree in computer science, mathematics, computational biology, computational chemistry, and other disciplines. Candidates will work on drug development tasks such as design, validation, and simulation.
ByteDance previously established an Aurora division dedicated to its big health business, led by former Baidu Vice President Wu Haifeng , reporting to ByteDance Global CEO Zhang Yiming.
ByteDance's AI Lab Artificial Intelligence Lab was established in 2016, and its main research focus is on developing innovative technologies that serve ByteDance's content platform. The lab is headed by Ma Weiying, who currently also serves as a mentor at the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Not only is ByteDance about to launch drug development, but Tencent has also previously established an AI drug development team under the company's artificial intelligence team.
Baidu plans to raise $2 billion for a new biotech startup, Reuters reported in September. Huawei has likewise made efforts in drug discovery and medical imaging through its cloud computing business unit.
