East China's Suzhou City on Saturday launched its pilot program for digital RMB gift money, which will give away a total of RMB 20 million to all eligible Suzhou residents.
A total of 100,000 gift money in the form of a so-called "Red Envelop" of RMB 200 each will be available to all eligible Suzhou residents starting at 20:00 on December 11.
The Chinese e-commerce platform JD.com supports users to pay with digital RMB when purchasing their own products, making it the first online platform in the pilot to access digital RMB.
The gift money will be given out through a "lucky draw", which will begin accepting applications at 0:00 on December 5, 2020 and continue until 24:00 on December 6, 2020.
Participating citizens can search for the Suzhoudao (苏周到) App in the Android App Market or Apple App Store, download and register with their real names to make a reservation.
The results will be announced on December 11. Citizens will be able to receive digital RMB spending bonuses after downloading and installing the "digital RMB App" and opening their digital wallet at the bank of their choice at the time of reservation.
