At the Snapdragon Technology Summit in Hawaii, Qualcomm unveiled its next-generation flagship chip, the Snapdragon 888, a name usually preferred by Chinese companies surprised many Chinese users.
According to thepaper.cn, on December 2, Qualcomm China chairman Meng Pu said at Qualcomm that the Snapdragon 888's naming did indeed involve the Chinese team and a lot of input from Chinese vendors.
"The Snapdragon 888 is an attempt to reflect these achievements of Qualcomm China, and I hope the world enjoys the good fortune that China brings," Meng said.

Xiaomi's chairman Lei Jun also said on Weibo today that he was surprised by the naming, "A month ago Qualcomm came to discuss with us at Xiaomi that the next-generation SoC could be called Snapdragon 888.
