China Unicom is already conducting 5G millimeter wave trials in some venues, with peak speeds of up to 9Gbps, said Feng Yi, director of the 5G Innovation Center at China Unicom, at a 5G forum today.
Currently, the number of China Unicom's 5G base stations has reached 380,000, and Feng Yi said that China Unicom and China Telecom are working together to explore the possibility of building the world's largest shared network, which would allow users to experience download speeds of 2.7Gbps.
At the same time, China Unicom is also conducting millimeter-wave experiments in some venues, and 9Gbps can be achieved through millimeter-wave technology in some competition venues in Beijing, he said.
China has more than 160 million 5G terminal connections, ranking first in the world.
According to Feng Yi, 5G's high-bandwidth, low-latency network capability provides viewers with ultra-high-definition, interactive and intelligent arena services.
A 5G private network can provide safe, reliable, convenient and high-quality network services for venues, he said.
