China Telecom has started large-scale commercial use of its 5G SA (stand-alone) network in more than 300 cities, the world's largest, said Li Zhengmao, general manager of the Chinese operator, at its Smart Eco Expo on November 7.
This network supports the three major application scenarios of eMBB, URLLC, and mMTC, and has been applied to a number of scenarios such as smart policing, smart factories, and smart grids.
On October 31, 2019, China Telecom opened the world's first 5G SA commercial network in Shenzhen. China Telecom has currently deployed more than 320,000 5G base stations, covering more than 300 cities across the country.
Lu Liangjun, deputy general manager of China Telecom's marketing department, said the 5G SA network is more stable on the downlink and faster on the uplink. It supports network slicing, edge computing, etc.
Half of all phones applying for regulatory approval in China are 5G phones
Currently, there are 30+ mobile phones supporting 5G SA, and by the end of the year, there will be 100+ mobile phones and multiple 5G industry terminals supporting this network.
In addition, Liu Guiqing, deputy general manager of China Telecom, said that China Telecom and KU Guodun established a quantum security joint venture company to enter the quantum security industry.
Liu said that China Telecom is promoting quantum and other cutting-edge technology research and development landing, will also promote the construction of quantum security communication network, innovative quantum security product applications, such as quantum security calls, quantum security video conferencing, quantum security cloud.
