Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker NIO (NYSE: NIO) plans to deploy more than 300 second-generation battery swap stations in China next year, the company's co-founder and president Qin Lihong said on Friday.

As of September 2020, Aulton is the operator with the largest number of battery swap stations in China, with a total of 276. NIO is in second place with 155.ย

China's 2020 government work report has expanded the term "building charging stations" to "increasing the number of charging stations, battery swap stations and other facilities". In the context of the rapid development of new energy vehicles, NIO-led battery swap mode ushered in policy benefits.

Analysts pointed out that, only in the taxi and online car market, battery swap mode market scale can reach 90 billion yuan or so.

The new battery swap station will cost less and need less time for deployment.

He said, NIO had promised to build 1,000 battery swap stations, this year this target will not be completed, but NIO will definitely complete it.
