Samsung Display, the display unit of Samsung Electronics, has received licenses from US authorities to continue supplying certain display panel products to Huawei, Reuters reported on Tuesday citing a source familiar with the matter.
Samsung Display counts Samsung Electronics and Apple as major customers for organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display screens.
The report said it is still unclear whether Samsung Display will be able to export its OLED panels to Huawei as other firms in the supply chain making components necessary to manufacture panels would also have to get US licences.
According to Chinastarmarket.cn, Samsung Display's products licensed by the US Department of Commerce are OLED screens
Following AMD and Intel, TSMC has also received a license from the US Department of Commerce to continue supplying some of its mature process products to Huawei, the Chinese chip industry website laoyaoba.com quoted a person with knowledge of the matter as saying early this month.
The source revealed that TSMC's license mainly covers products manufactured using mature processes, while mobile phone SoCs and other advanced process products are still banned.
