At the global online launch of the Mate 40 series, Huawei introduced several new applications for overseas users, including Petal Search, a universal search engine that supports multiple search methods, and Petal Maps, a mapping application that can be operated through the Mate 40 series from a distance.
Petal Search provides users in more than 170 overseas countries and regions with search services in more than 20 categories, including applications, news, videos, pictures, shopping, travel, airfare, hotels, music, local services and various lifestyle information, and supports more than 50 languages.
Users can search for the information and services they need through multiple portals, including the Petal Search app, search box on the home screen, Huawei browser, and Huawei Smart Assistant.

Huawei said, "Based on the AI advantages of the HUAWEI Mate 40 series, Petal Search's visual search function supports users to take photos or use images to search for people, animals, attractions, products, recipes, etc. of interest, instantly. Petal Search voice search is also supported in English, Spanish, French and Arabic."
The Petal Search search engine provides users with localized categorized search services, popular local restaurants, attractions, events and other content, as well as local weather, translation and other functional services.
In addition, Petal Maps, which is live in more than 140 overseas countries and regions, provides users with map location, map display, driving directions, real-time road conditions and other services.
Huawei also pioneered a new way of interacting with maps by applying the Mate 40 series' gesture function to navigation, which allows users to switch between navigation route view and map overview by pressing their palms towards the screen while driving.
With Petal Maps' real-time public transportation alerts, users can view the departure and arrival of public transportation in selected cities to plan their time and travel. Currently, Petal Maps supports Chinese, English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and other languages.
