China has opened 690,000 5G base stations-cnTechPost

By the end of September, China had opened 690,000 5G base stations and cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hangzhou had continuous coverage of 5G networks in urban areas, according to data released today by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

According to previous data, the number of 5G subscribers has been growing, with the number of accumulated terminal connections exceeding 100 million as of late September.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), China's 5G applications continue to diversify, covering industrial, medical, media, transportation and other fields, and investment in new information infrastructure, represented by 5G, is increasing every quarter.

The head of the MIIT's Information Technology Development Department pointed out in late September that China's next step would be to steadily advance network construction, and also to strengthen research on the direction of 6G development and key technologies.

By way of comparison, data released by the MIIT in late July showed that 257,000 new 5G base stations were built in the first half of the year, reaching a total of 410,000 by the end of June.
