OnePlus is tentatively scheduled to release its 2021 flagship phone, the OnePlus 9 series, around mid-March next year to take on Samsung, Xiaomi, and other rival flagship models, AndroidCentral reported today.
OnePlus this year launched the OnePlus 8 series on April 14 and went on sale on April 29, but had previously released new models mostly in May.
OnePlus isn't the only company considering an early 2021 flagship phone launch. SamMobile and AndroidCentral have each confirmed through their own channels that Samsung will also launch its next-generation flagship model, the Galaxy S21 series, in early January, a full six weeks earlier than it had previously announced its new phones in February.
The current models that are likely to be released early next year include the Samsung Galaxy S21 series, the Mi 11 series, which is OnePlus' competitor on the high end of the road. So OnePlus will have to face the challenge head on.
Since the OnePlus 8T has just been released, there is zero information about the OnePlus 9 series that is currently popping up. However, going by the usual upgrades, it is assumed that at least it will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 chip, support 65W or even higher fast charging and so on.
OnePlus 8T launched in China with prices starting at about $500
