Tencent Cloud announced on October 14 that it has opened its first 5G edge computing center, which is being deployed to address issues such as lack of computing power and network latency that have long plagued real-time HD audio and video, smart communities, smart healthcare, industrial Internet and other scenarios.
Although 5G is characterized by high bandwidth and low latency, due to limited network resources in the transmission network, problems such as network congestion, transmission rate and latency performance degradation are inevitable as massive amounts of data are added at the edge.
Edge computing will significantly reduce the latency of data processing and service delivery by providing data and computing services close to the edge of the network. This meets vertical industries' needs for high network traffic, low latency, and security and privacy protection to improve network data processing efficiency.
Tencent Cloud's 5G Edge Computing Center, officially opened in Binhai, deploys Tencent's edge computing infrastructure ECM and 5G network access platform on top of a rapidly deployable mini T-block.
Tencent Cloud said that with the support of the 5G Edge Computing Center, enterprises can quickly deploy cloud games without the need to adapt complex hardware and software platforms by accessing Tencent Cloud cloud gaming solutions.
In addition to the Binhai 5G edge computing center, Tencent Cloud announced at the Tencent Global Digital Ecology Conference on Sept. 11 that it expects to complete the construction of nearly 300 edge computing nodes by the end of this year.
