TikTok has launched a lawsuit against the US government, challenging an injunction the latter will impose next month. In documents filed with the court, the company revealed details of its monthly active users in the US and globally for the first time.

The documents show that around 11 million Americans used the TikTok app in January 2018, and that its number of monthly active users (MAUs) has grown by nearly 800% since then.
From January 2018 to January 2019, its number of monthly active users more than doubled to about 27 million.
By June 2020, a few months after the novel coronavirus pandemic prompted authorities to take quarantine measures, TikTok's total number of monthly active US users soared to more than 91 million.
TikTok now has more than 100 million monthly active users in the US and more than 50 million daily active users in the United States.
In addition, TikTok has been downloaded approximately 2 billion times worldwide.

Globally, the number of TikTok users has also surged. The total number of global users was around 55 million as of January 2018, which soared to over 271 million by December 2018 and further soared to 507 million by December 2019.
This month, TikTok downloads crosses the 2 billion mark globally and the number of monthly active users worldwide in July was close to 700 million.
