Alibaba-backed Auto-Navi Software Co., also known as Gaode Map, recently released v10.60, a new version that brings AR driving navigation to mobile phones, providing users with a more intuitive route, direction, and lane level real-world navigation experience.
The feature is currently supported on select Android phones, with iPhone support coming soon.
Many people may recognize the wrong intersection on an overpass or miss an on-ramp on a highway, even when driving with map navigation on. For these people, the advent of AR navigation may solve this problem.
According to Gaode, AR navigation leverages intelligent image recognition technology as well as professional traffic big data and lane level navigation engines to present intuitive 3D navigation directions in real-time directly on a captured image of the real road.
This dramatically reduces the time it takes drivers to recognize traditional 2D maps and assists users in making faster and more accurate decisions in a variety of critical scenarios such as steering, turnouts, lane changes, etc.
Based on dynamic and static data such as navigation planning, current position, vehicle speed, road conditions, and image recognition of the lane, Gaode AR navigation will intelligently give alerts for lane change and merge at the right time, so that users can follow the arrows to ensure safety.
In addition, Gaode AR navigation can also provide intelligent image recognition of passing vehicles, pedestrians, lane lines, traffic signs, traffic lights, and other surroundings, and provide drivers with a series of driving safety aids such as distance monitoring, collision warning, pedestrian warning, lane departure reminder, front vehicle start reminder, traffic light reminder and so on.
