On April 9, Tencent Cloud announced the establishment of "Star Lake Lab", the first hardware engineering lab in Tencent's history to increase investment in technology.
Star Lake is named after the Star Lake of Maduo, Guoluo Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. It takes the name of water and implies smart and intelligent.
Star Lake Lab will combine Tencent's own business and the needs of millions of customers on the cloud to carry out special research and development in cloud native server technology.
At present, Tencent Cloud and Smart Industry Business Group already has Youtu Lab, Quantum Lab, Future Network Lab, Multimedia Lab, and 7 security labs.
As the first hardware engineering laboratory in Tencent history, the purpose is to optimize traditional server hardware in cloud computing scenarios.
Star Lake Lab will focus on three core tasks:
Research and development of computing, storage, and network server hardware products to support the development of Tencent's infrastructure;
Research on new server architectures, building BIOS, BMC, heat dissipation, machine mechanical structure, and server security;
Forward-looking The research on sexual servers focuses on the combination of hardware and software and cloud native to help business development.
Last year, after nearly a year of in-depth self-research, Tencent Cloud officially released Star Lake SA2, the first server product with completely independent intellectual property rights. This is also the industry's first server for the cloud produced by the laboratory team.
At present, the Star Lake SA2 cloud server instance has been applied to Tencent's internal products and services including Tencent Conference, Tencent Education, Spring Festival QQ Red Packet, WeChat, video transcoding, and advertising retrieval.
Among them, Star Lake SA2 supports the Tencent conference to expand a total of more than 100,000 cloud hosts within 8 days during the new coronavirus outbreak, and the average daily expansion of cloud hosts is close to 15,000 units, involving a total of more than one million cores of computing resources investment, to ensure the stability of Tencent conference While serving externally, it also created an industry record for cloud computing.
After obtaining stable application verification in Tencent's internal business scenarios, Tencent Cloud is currently accelerating the deployment of Star Lake SA2 in data centers around the world, opening up stable and cost-effective computing capabilities to users in the form of cloud services.
"With the official establishment of Star Lake Lab, Tencent Cloud will also more extensively cooperate with ecological partners in the global semiconductor industry chain to accelerate the construction of a cloud-native server product matrix covering a variety of application scenarios to meet the needs of computing and high IO, big data, heterogeneous business requirements in different scenarios, "said the head of Tencent Cloud Star Lake Lab.
It is worth mentioning that Tencent Cloud has already carried out an extensive self-developed strategic layout of cloud computing technology at the server, data center, and cloud software levels such as proprietary cloud, database, middleware, and cloud storage.
"In the future, Tencent Cloud will further expand the scope of independent research and development, and rely on a large amount of technology accumulation and massive user service experience to provide users with more secure and efficient cloud services to meet the autonomy of government, finance, industry, telecommunications, medical and other industries. Controllable cloud demand, "said the person in charge of Tencent Cloud.
