Xiaomi India team issued a statement today saying that due to the implementation of India's consumption tax and exchange rate factors, Xiaomi's mobile phone products have gone up in prices.
Xiaomi India stated that it hopes everyone stay at home to ensure their safety.
The Indian government recently announced an update on the excise tax amendment. Since April 1, 2020, the GST tax rate for mobile phones has increased from 12% to 18%, a 50% increase.
Xiaomi said that because the profit margins of all its hardware products remain below 5%, there is no choice but to increase the price to use the new price.
The price increase will take effect from midnight on April 1, 2020, and will soon reflect product price changes on mi.com.
Recently, Chinese smartphone manufacturers such as Xiaomi and Realme are suggesting that the Indian government classify mobile phones as essential commodities and allow users to deliver mobile phones through e-commerce platforms during India's 21-day national blockade.
