The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced that it has agreed that the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology can establish a domain name root server (L root mirror server) and to become a domain name root server operating agency, responsible for operating, maintaining, and managing the domain name root server numbered JX0013L.
When information such as the domain name root server room address, Internet Protocol (IP) address, and autonomous domain (AS) number is changed, it should be reported to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in writing 15 days before the date of change.
The domain name root server is the necessary infrastructure for building the Internet. When we access the Internet, we have to go through a conversion process from URL to IP. This process is done by a domain name server. Most Internet applications rely on this to achieve the addressing and positioning of network resources.
The root server is mainly used to manage the home directory of the Internet. All IPv4 root servers are uniformly managed by ICANN, the Internet domain name and number assignment agency authorized by the US government and are responsible for the management of global Internet domain name IPv4 root servers, domain name systems, and IP addresses. There are only 13 IPv4 root name servers in the world. 1 primary root server in the United States. The remaining 12 are secondary root servers, 9 of which are in the US, 2 in Europe, in the UK and Sweden, and 1 in Asia in Japan.
On the basis of full compatibility with the existing IPv4 root server architecture, the "Snowman Project" led by China and cooperating with the Internet WIDE organization completed the installation of 25 IPv6 root servers in 16 countries worldwide in 2016. The new structure of Taiwan's original roots plus 25 IPv6 roots has laid a solid foundation for the establishment of a multilateral, democratic, and transparent international Internet governance system. China has deployed 4 of them, consisting of a primary root server and 3 secondary root servers, breaking the plight of no root server in China in the past.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's website issued a reply on June 26 on agreeing to the establishment of a domain name root server (F, I, K, L root mirror server) and a domain name root server operating agency at the China Internet Network Information Center.
