TikTok owner Bytedance is considering setting up a global headquarters outside of China for the hit video-sharing app, WSJ reported on Monday citing people familiar with the company.
The report said this is part of continuing efforts to shake off its Chinese image.
Singapore is one city being considered, with other possible locations including London and Dublin, with no American cities on the shortlist, the report said.
TikTok currently doesnโt have a headquarters, although its most-senior executive is based in Shanghai and its main office, which runs U.S. operations, is in Los Angeles.
In November, TikTok was installed nearly 67 million times, which is the third-most installed month of the app, only after December 2018 (68.5 million) and January 2019 (67.7 million) .
In terms of daily installations, the highest point in history appeared on Christmas Day on December 25, 2018, reaching 3.06 million, and the increase was mainly from the US market.
The number of installations in the US market soared to 717,000 on that day (the average number of installations per day before the Christmas holiday was 154,000), accounting for 23.4% of TikTok installations.
At present, TikTok has become one of the main platforms for young American users to share interesting things in life, especially the most important holiday of the year-Christmas.
From the current trend, downloads in December this year are expected to surpass the same period last year.
The top five markets for TikTok installations in November were India, Brazil, the United States, Russia, and Indonesia, contributing 43.9%, 8.1%, 6.4%, 5.5%, and 3.9% of the installations, respectively.
In terms of revenue, the TikTok in-app purchase revenue in November reached US $ 6.86 million, which is the highest monthly revenue month, with an increase of 179% year-on-year and an increase of 18.8% month-on-month.
US users contributed 70.3%, followed by Canada and the United Kingdom with 5.9% and 4.5%, respectively.
