Huawei's products except for mobile phones, tablets and computers will all run the Harmony OS next year, Wang Chenglu, president of Huawei โ€™s consumer business software department, said in a recent event.

The open source for Harmony OS will also be made in August next year, Wang said.

In September of this year, Huawei released its self-developed operating system, Harmony OS, which is a microkernel-based distributed operating system for all scenarios.

At present, Huawei and Honor's latest smart screen products use Harmony OS.

Compared with hardware technology, the improvement of software capabilities has always been a difficult point for major mobile phone manufacturers to overcome.

At present, Huawei terminal's Android-based mobile phone operating system EMUI has been updated to the tenth generation, and its biggest highlight is the introduction of full-scene distributed technology.

The reason why Huawei wants to implement full-scenario distributed technology is mainly because of the contradiction between the rapid increase of global IoT devices and the mismatch of application experience.

According to IoT Analytics and Research GATE's annual growth statistics and forecasts of global IoT devices, the number of IoT devices will increase from 2.09 per capita in 2015 to 3.96 per capita in 2020, and is expected to reach 9.27 per capita in 2025.

"New devices are emerging endlessly. If there is no ecological support, it will cause contradictions such as poor user experience, sharp decline in users, and unwillingness of developers to adapt." Wang said.

Obviously, Huawei is accelerating the promotion of Harmony OS. As for when mobile phones and tablets will be fully launched, Harmony OS has no timetable yet.
